Gulls chase the state run ferry as it makes the twenty-minute trip from the Sapelo Island Visitors Center, on the mainland about seven miles away to the island. Sapelo Island is a barrier island located in McIntosh County, Georgia. The island is reachable only by airplane, to a small private airport run by the state of Georgia, or by boat.
